Future In Our Hands
International Network

Three decades of grassroots impact, broken down.

From building schools from scratch in Sierra Leone to climate disaster relief in Pakistan — here is what FIOH and its partner organisations have built together, where your money goes, and the projects that defined the journey.

What our funding goes to

Across health, education, agriculture, and water, our partners deliver concrete outputs we can count and verify. These are the four programme areas every donation helps fund.

Public Health

Community-led awareness campaigns countering misinformation and negative stereotypes around Monkeypox, HIV/AIDS, Covid, Ebola and maternal health.

  • 3 generations of people reached through awareness and education campaigns
  • National Disabled Treatment Centre built and resourced
  • 7 health-emergency responses funded

Education

Nursery schools, scholarships, computer rooms and vocational training — building and supporting learning infrastructure where state provision is absent.

  • 2,000+ children supported in school annually
  • 5 schools built, with dozens of others funded and supported
  • 5 computer rooms in the last year

Sustainable Agriculture

Vast indigenous tree nurseries, organic school gardens, climate-resilient farming and reforestation — building soil and food security through partner-led initiatives.

  • 2,000,000+ tree seedlings planted
  • 80+ smallholder farmers trained
  • 12 school gardens producing food

Water & Sanitation

Boreholes, rainwater harvesting, hand-washing stations and sanitation blocks — closing the daily water gap that keeps children out of school.

  • 20+ boreholes & water systems installed
  • 500+ families with new clean-water access
  • 5 schools equipped with clean water and toilets

Stories from the field

Three projects that capture how the network operates in practice — partner-led from the start, modest in budget, and built to last.

Computer Donation Project — Youth Leading The World

The challenge

Students at schools in Sierra Leone preparing to be active in the workforce had limited hands-on access to computers — a gap that quietly closed doors to future employment and livelihoods beyond their region.

What we are doing

FIOH supporters funded the building and setup of new computer rooms in five primary and secondary schools across the Yonibana District, Sierra Leone. The rooms are in constant use, providing opportunities and skills to students.

Outcome

Students are gaining digital literacy, opening up IT roles post-education — a route that simply didn't exist before.

“Your partnership remains our primary source of hope as we finalise this initiative. We truly appreciate your encouragement, commitment, and everything you are doing for the success of the project.” — Alpha Mohamed Kargbo, YLTW

Clean Water for Internally Displaced Persons — IAA

The challenge

Civil conflict has been raging in North West Cameroon for over a decade. Local people have been forced from their homes out of fear of violence.

What we did

During 2025 we supported their relocation and the acquisition of tools and equipment used in farming, helping them become self-sustainable and feed themselves. In 2026 FIOH aims to extend this provision with clean-water solutions via boreholes, replacing reliance on contaminated streams.

Outcome

127 people were involved in training and equipping for farming; 71% of those trained were women. With IAA we cultivated 120 gardens across 30 hectares — each garden generating around £1,700 a year for the family while providing food and nutritional security. Health, wellbeing, and livelihood improved for over 1,000 people.

“I extend my sincere gratitude to FIOH for supporting me and my team in this incredible mission, which I have so much passion for and enjoy doing, while inspiring others in the same field.” — Dungrila Pascal Mbimenyuy, Team Leader

Supporting Street Children — HEARTS Foundation

The challenge

Supporting children who have been orphaned and have no access to parental support to progress their education.

What we did

Funding was provided to help HEARTS support young people — stationery, examination guides, study materials, and exam fees.

Outcome

Only one boy in this year's cohort needs to resit. All other students passed, with one achieving 93% marks. Students in the classes below were all promoted to their next class — advancing entire year groups towards better education and promising futures.

“Without your generous support, this children's home would not run. All students, staff and my family are always grateful to you.” — Mohan Rao Dasari, HEARTS Foundation
